Sleep of Reason

Sleep of Reason is based on a performance piece written and directed by Rachel Frank. Performed in New York City in 2010 and 2011, Sleep of Reason uses the allegorical narratives in Francisco Goya’s Los Caprichos to examine the theatrical/performance implications of prisoner torture and abuse depicted in the Abu Ghraib photographs. Referencing his works, the piece suggests the recurrent darkness beneath the rational and enlightened society of today.
